Every piece of jewelry has a story. Mine starts with a single ring, opened by hand.
Designs by Myriad is chainmaille: jewelry woven from thousands of individual rings, never soldered, each one formed and closed by hand in sterling silver and 14/20 gold filled.
Because nothing is fused, nothing is fixed. A bracelet can be sized to your wrist, a necklace shortened or lengthened, a favorite design remade in the other metal.
Every finished chain is tumbled in steel shot until it shines and feels silky against the skin. Art to wear, made one ring at a time on the majestic Monterey Peninsula in Northern California.

Hi, I'm Debbie
My love for metalworking began to blossom while studying in the Art Dimensional program at Monterey Peninsula College.
The program offered unique studio classes in metalsmithing, which allowed me to blend traditional techniques with modern design to create stunning pieces of art. Chainmaille isn't soldered.
Each jump ring is formed, threaded and closed one at a time, and the pattern holds because every ring connects to two others. It takes a particular kind of patience, which is why very few people make jewelry this way.

Chainmaille is jewelry woven from individual metal rings rather than cast or soldered. Each jump ring is opened, threaded through its neighbours and closed by hand. The pattern holds because every ring connects to at least two others, which is what gives chainmaille its fluid, fabric-like movement.

Sterling silver and 14/20 gold filled. Gold filled is not plating. It is a thick layer of solid 14k gold bonded to a base metal, so it wears and lasts far longer than plated jewelry and keeps its colour for years with normal wear.

It has real weight, and that is part of the appeal for most of my clients. It is not fine, dainty jewelry. That said, weight varies a lot by weave and ring size. If you prefer something lighter, the earrings and the more open weaves are much lighter than they look. Ask me and I will point you to the right piece.

Byzantine is the pattern most people recognise. Its dense, rope-like structure comes from repeating a small four-ring unit, and it is one of the oldest known chainmaille patterns. It is the weave I am asked for most often, in bracelets especially.

Yes, almost always. Because chainmaille is not soldered, I can add or remove rings to change the length of nearly any piece. That applies to something you have just bought and to something you have owned for years.

Yes. Almost any design in the shop can be made in sterling silver or 14/20 gold filled, and some pieces work beautifully with the two mixed. Prices differ between the metals, so send me a message and I will quote it for you.

Wrap a strip of paper or a tape measure snugly around your wrist just below the bone, measure the width across the top of the wrist, and then add roughly half an inch for comfortable movement. Chainmaille sits a little differently to a solid bangle, so if you are between sizes, tell me and I will advise.
